Reviews for Philippe The Original
I guess I'm an outlier here. Stopped by for a beef dip before a show. The place is an LA institution and the vibe is old school cool, but there is nothing particularly remarkable about the food. Good, not great. Portions are small by modern standards. The horseradish sauce on the tables pairs really well with the beef dip. Beer is cold. Server was very pleasant.
I got a lamb dip (sandwich) iced tea (not sweet) and a coconut cream pie. The sandwich was great but too small and the coconut pie was more cream than pie, extremely small so not worth the $8 price. Giving it 3 stars due to the good atmosphere, wouldn't come back with my family again, maybe with friends is ok Parking: There are 2 parking lots for Philippe customers, so plenty of space here
I have always enjoyed their beer dips here. Seems to be less beef in it these days. Most of the food is pretty basic for a deli type place. We also had a vegetable barley soup and some chilli. The flavors are consistent with what you would expect. Oh and the tapioca pudding is the best I have ever tried❤️ Drinks are still too small for my families liking. The staff is always helpful and friendly at the counter. The tables are kept clean, even on their busiest day, like Dodger games during the season. The aesthetic is very vintage and it takes you back to a simpler time. Seating can get tricky and the tables are very close to each other. This can make it difficult to maneuver in and out of your seating. Overall, it's an experience you must do at least once. Vegetarian options: Vegetable soup
